Butterfly valves are designed with four holes aligned with the connecting pipe for clamping between two flanges in the pipeline. Most Wafer Type Butterfly Valves conform to most flange standards. Rubber or EPDM seats create an extremely strong seal between the valve and the flange connection.
Unlike the lug-type butterfly valve, the Butt Clamp Butterfly Valve cannot be used as an end-of-pipe or end-of-line service. If maintenance is required on either side of the valve, the entire pipeline must be shut down. Butt-clamp butterfly valves are manufactured to be compatible with either pneumatic or electric actuation. Flap and seat materials should be determined according to the application and flow medium.
Quarter-turn mechanism: Butterfly valves feature a metal disc, often called a ‘butterfly’, attached to a stem. The disc makes a quarter turn to open or close the valve.
Fluid Flow Control: When the valve disc is fully open, the disc allows almost unrestricted flow of fluid. You can also gradually adjust the valve to fine-tune the flow.
Pressure Management: The orientation of the disc (either perpendicular or parallel to the flow) affects the fluid path, causing a pressure drop regardless of its position.

Butt-piece butterfly valves are designed for specific applications based on their unique characteristics and limitations:
Limitations of Use: Unlike lug type butterfly valves, buttress butterfly valves cannot be used as end-of-pipe or for end-of-line service. This means they are not suitable for applications where the valve is located at the end of a pipework system.
Maintenance Requirements: If either side of the valve requires maintenance, the entire pipeline must be shut down. Therefore, they are best suited to systems where the entire pipeline can be shut down for maintenance.
Actuation compatibility: Wafer type butterfly valves s are manufactured to be compatible with pneumatic or electric actuators. This makes them suitable for automation systems that rely on these types of actuators.
Material Considerations: Flap and seat material selection should be based on the application and flow medium. For example, standard NBR seats can be replaced with EPDM or FKM depending on the chemical compatibility required for a particular flow medium.
