A basket strainer is a device that uses a screen to filter out foreign impurities from the pipeline, which are removed by the strainer. It helps to protect the piping system from clogging or damage to piping systems and industrial valves due to debris build-up.
According to the grid size, filters are generally divided into coarse filters (suitable for particles larger than a specific size), medium-sized filters (particles with a size of 75-1905 μm), and fine filters (particles smaller than 5 microns)
According to the working method, they can be divided into:
Single basket filter (Simplex): a single filter, requiring downtime for cleaning
Duplex basket filter (Duplex): double filters in parallel, can be switched online, no need to shut down
Y-type filter: filtration when the fluid makes a sharp turn, this filter is relatively easy to clean
T-type filter: filter installed at the T-type joint of the pipeline.
The basket filter is generally installed horizontally on the pipeline. The inlet and outlet directions should be consistent with the direction of the arrow on the valve body, and all connections should be firmly tightened to prevent leakage. It is generally in the pump, control valves and other equipment upstream, the main role is to protect important equipment from pipeline debris damage, guide the fluid through the filter, and then the filter mesh to capture these impurities particles.
When the fluid enters the screened filter basket, particles larger than the openings are trapped in the screen and the clean fluid is discharged through the outlet. Filter baskets are usually made of stainless steel wire mesh with different opening sizes and can filter particles from 5-1950 microns.
Effectively removes solid particles from pipelines and protects pipelines, valves and other downstream equipment. Maintains the purity of the fluid, extends the overall service life of the system, reduces downtime and improves productivity. On the other hand, it can better save the cost of maintenance and replacement.
Basket filter is very easy to maintain, it comes with removable basket. Has the advantage of being cleaned and replaced without downtime. This is especially important for the proper functioning of the piping system.
After the filter has been working for a period of time, certain impurities will be deposited in the filter basket. When the pressure drop increases and the flow rate decreases, the impurities in the filter need to be cleaned in time. When cleaning, special attention should be paid to the stainless steel wire mesh on the filter basket to be gently removed, and excessive force operation may deform or damage it. The single basket filter needs to be stopped for cleaning, while the compound basket filter can be switched online without stopping. Some filters will come with automatic self-cleaning system, which is more convenient.
Operators need to regularly check the filter for signs of damage and clogging, and if there is damage and it is confirmed that it can no longer be used, then it needs to be replaced in time. The impurities on the filter screen are usually cleaned with water or cleaning solution, and after cleaning, the gaskets and seals should be checked, and the serviceability of these accessories should also be ensured, because these are a whole, and will affect each other.
