Eccentric reducers are special fittings used to join pipes of different diameters and are designed to be flush on one side, allowing the pipe to become aligned on that particular side while making a transition in diameter. This asymmetrical shape makes them particularly useful in horizontal piping systems, especially where there is a need to avoid the buildup of air or vapors, like in pump suction lines.
In liquid piping, eccentric reducers are typically installed with the flat side confronting prevent air buildup, while in gas piping, they are typically installed with the flat side facing down to enable condensate drainage. This design helps prevent the formation of air or vapor pockets on horizontal liquid lines and enables proper drainage on gas lines.
Eccentric reducers can be made from a variety of materials, including stainless-steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel. Eccentric reducers have an offset centerline compared to concentric reducers, making them better for horizontal installations and avoiding problems with air trapping or liquid buildup. They can be installed by welding, flanged connections or other methods, depending upon design requirements.
When selecting eccentric reducers, consideration needs to become offered to the size of the pipe being connected, the kind of fluid being conveyed, the orientation of the system, and the specific flow requirements. Correct orientation of the install
